VeganVember was started as a month-long project in November of 2010.

After experimenting with veganism for days and weeks at a time, I decided to make the commitment to go vegan for a month. My sorority big, Hallie, and I decided that November was the perfect month to do it. We later found out that it was World Vegan Month and Vegan Month of Food.

After the month was over, I decided that I loved veganism. Now, I only eat non-vegan food at restaurants or in the presence of company. When I cook for myself, it’s almost always vegan.

I find a special sort of joy in “veganizing” a recipe, cooking it, and serving the food to others. For me, cooking is like art. You start with a plan, but you modify it along the way. Sometimes things go horribly wrong and you’re forced to start over. But when you finally get it, man, it feels good.

I discovered food blogs this summer. Ever since, I’ve been addicted.

My food philosophy is simple. Eat what makes you feel good. Don’t eat it if it makes you feel guilty or it makes you feel sick. Now, I’m not condoning being a picky eater. You should never refuse to try something because it “looks gross” or “you don’t eat vegetables”. Try everything you are served. If you know something’s good for you, try it more than once. But never eat something that doesn’t make you feel good physically, mentally, emotionally, or spiritually. That will just turn you into a miserable person.

And if that means you turn into a vegan, good for you. If it means you decide to skip the second slice of coffee cake at your holiday office party, good for you. Be comfortable with your decisions and love yourself.

And cheat on your diet sometimes! Life’s no fun unless you break the rules.

    Love the blog! Great healthy recipes! Looks like we have lots in common! I look forward to reading more! Healthy Holidays! I’ve got some steel cut oats infused with eggnog with my name on them soon! Replace with soynog if you will. 🙂
